Best Foot Forward with Tuscany Car Rentals
From the Pisa airport called Galileo Galilei, only two kilometres from the city, you can take the SS1 and comfortably park in a free parking area two km. north of the Campo dei Miracoli and take a round trip bus into the city centre for just 1.10 euros and visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa. With map in hand, you locate the A11 and set out for the city of Lucca, hidden behind the impressive well kept Renaissance walls and a good place to explore the Apuanos Alps and the Garfagnana valley. To get a bird’s eye view of the city, it is well worth climbing either the Tower delle Ore or the tower of the Palace Guinigi ( 3.50 euros ) and or biking around the top of the city walls. If you are lucky to be in Lucca in July, you can enjoy the Annual Summer Music Festival where stars such as Davie Bowie or Rod Stewart have played. For a simple but belly filling dinner, I would recommend the Girovita in the Piazza Antelminelli, with salads and pasta and a beautiful view for about 7 euros. And then for a comfortable sleep at the Piccolo Hotel Puccini, Via di Poggio,9. It is elegant and centrical for about 55 euros a single room including bath.
After an unhurried run around the Tuscany tour, you can be the master of your time and make a quick escape to Rome. If you have finished up in Livorno, then take the S1 highway down to the heart of Italy. If you did not make plans before going to Rome, good tourist information is found at the Stazione Termini ( main train station ) at the end of platform no. 4 or at the many other tourist information booths where free pocket maps are given. All you have to do is put your best foot forward and your tuscany car rentals will do the rest.
