In central Toscana, holiday villas in Tuscany, especially in the Chianti area are absolutely ‘seventh heaven’. Chianti, an area of hills and valleys situated between Florence and Siena, is a countryside filled with every shade of green imagineable, especially because it is one of the main producers of the finest wine in the country. The fields of Chianti are filled with olive trees and vineyards, some Roman churches, castles turned into holiday homes, small palaces as vacation villas and farmhouses offered as holiday villas in Tuscany.
Dashing around with Tuscany Car Rental
Being as the Tuscany area has a good combination of sight seeing in and around the cities and lots of natural panoramic views to be captured, with a tuscany car rental, the well-known picturesque route SS222, going from Florence to Siena, can be explored better. I had seen a part of the city of Pisa when I arrived and then to Florence. I was a little restless and wanted to take advantage of being able to do a safe outdoor activity so I opted for a one day bike tour around the Chianti countryside which took in about 50 kilometres. The 80 euros included the bus transport to where we left from, a nice mountain bicycle, the adequate clothing, a delicious toscana meal and the visit to a wine cellar where we tried several Chianti wines and some olive oil, too. After we got back to Florence and I delved into the area of Santa Maria Novella ( Chiesa di Santa Trinita and Chiesa di Ognissanti ) and saturated myself with attractive frescos of Domenico Ghirlandaio including his masterpiece ‘ The Last Supper’, the San Augustine of Botticelli and the impressive Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, I decided to return to the Chianti area.
Back to Nature around Chianti
This time I wanted to sleep among the olive trees in the Appennine hills so I took A1 to the Monte S. Savino exit and looked for the signs to Castiglion Fiorentino ( about 12 km. from Monte Savino). Then it was on to a smaller road marked SS71 heading towards Cortona. Be on the lookout for the sign to Polvano-Citta di Castello and continue on for about 5-6 km. Once you get to Santa Cristina, take the first left and sitting atop is the rustic farmhouse called Le Capanne which was patiently awaiting me. It was the best tuscany holiday rentals I had stayed in up until the moment so when I come back, I will try different kinds of holiday villas in Tuscany.
