Quick retreats to your holiday home in Tuscany can be a life saver. Can you imagine having your own home among the lush slooping green hills in the heart of the wine country of Chianti or in the foothills of the Apuane Alps? Or your own bungalow holiday home on the beach front of the Liguria Sea or a farm house not far away from the Renaissance city of Florence? No more having to make reservations in advance or leaving your comfort in the air. No more having to use or share what others have used or shared. Well any of these can be a dream come true if you wish to invest in a holiday home in Tuscany.

Holiday Home in Tuscany, a Second Retreat

Let’s take a look at some questions that I have compiled, having used these myself when I bought my Italian home.
If you have decided to have a holiday home in Tuscany, it is probably because you have visited this area a few times before and have found it the ideal place to plant roots. Everyone has different needs, so it would be wise to make your own list and then check it with mine so that you do not miss any important detail.

  1. where it should be located within the tuscany province – near the sea, near a particular city or town or in the mountains.
  2. when you would be using it – all summer, sometimes in winter, all year round, just for business
  3. will you need heating and/or air conditioning
  4. what kind of household appliances will be involved
  5. how big/small you want your house to be
  6. will pets and children be well accomodated
  7. will it be rented when in disuse for tourism
  8. what kind of public transport is available
  9. what kind of shops and services are around

Other than the list of questions, I will also make suggestions that were given to me, and believe me, they helped me to eliminate some houses that I thought were great buys and would have turned out to be a disaster.

  • stay for a night or two in the holiday home you are thinking of buying.
  • check for noise levels if you are thinking of a holiday home, apartment type
  • check out your neighbours if possible

If you feel it necessary, do a car hire and travel around the area with a tourist guide and make the last round before settling for your holiday home in Tuscany.
